As I grew into adulthood and left home to pursue my own dreams of becoming a teacher, I realized what wonderful life lessons I learned from my mom. Especially lessons about the importance of a strong work ethic and finishing what you have started.

It is the Easter of my being

Volunteering here has helped me reach into the depths of my mind and soul. It has made me realize how much serving my community and making others happy means to me. This experience has made me so much closer to God as I use my God-given gifts to serve.

May I too be a companion to all on the journey home to our Provident God who has blessed me with this gift of abundance.

Sometimes, the liturgical action, in this case receiving ashes, expresses what we struggle to find words to express on our own. Even when we know we’re pulled toward a journey, we may have no idea what direction to take or where the path even is.

What activities help you to calm yourself during this pandemic?

My home town was a small city that did not permit African-Americans within the city limits after dark. The deed to our house did not allow us to sell our house to anyone of African-American descent.

I shared with them information about our spirituality, our current ministries, justice efforts and values. I answered their questions about religious life and shared my personal experience of this life.

The Chapter meeting culminated in the election of the Congregation’s Leadership Team of the next five years.
