Sister Dawn reflects on the Providence community as we welcome new Providence Associates. May this community be one that mirrors the community established more than 2,000 years ago by Jesus. A community based on mutual, abiding love and not, as with other human institutions, on power or fear.

17 new Providence Associates joined the Providence community Nov. 9, 2019. We welcome these women and men as together we live out a mission of love, mercy and justice.

On Saturday, 24 new Providence Associate candidates gathered at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. Here they met the Sisters of Providence and Providence Associate companions who will walk with them in the coming year. The Oct. 19 orientation day began a year for them to spend time reflecting on their lives and their faith and getting to better know the spirituality and mission of the Sisters of Providence. Enjoy these photos from the day.

'Give me, give us, this heart of Mother Theodore with which to treasure the power and promise of the cross.'

I feel inclined to talk with Saint Mother Theodore about what’s worrying me, or making me happy or driving me crazy. "Another means for preserving the peace is to let little things pass without noticing them," she said.

Providence Associates of the Sisters of Providence gathered from near and far to come home to the Woods for their annual meeting June 28-July 1, 2019. Enjoy these photos of the sisters and associates enjoying their time together at the Woods.

As I say “Yes!” to these great unknowns, I am excited to see the ways that Providence will draw these vows into my life. I’m excited to see the way they will shape me into my most authentic self. I’m excited to see what religious life will come to be as we navigate this time of transition.

Saint Mother Theodore, truly I have great need of your prayers. I am quite a grumbler.

That seed has blossomed into a new outreach ministry for the Sisters of Providence. We will now receive for interment at the Sisters of Providence, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, the cremains of persons other than members of the Congregation.

This has had profound impact on our concept of community. We now embrace an understanding of Providence — of God’s design and desire for all of us — which helps us know that we are united with all that exists. That everything is connected.

My hands-on experience with Providence Associates came in California, during the time of our ministry at Providence in the Desert teaching English to migrant farm workers in Coachella. Our Providence Associates become a part of our community. They assist us as they are able: with their prayers, their contributions, their traveling the long distances to participate in our gatherings, and with their outreach, both in California and in Indiana.
