HOPE summer 2021 — Sharing the light
Living through a pandemic has given the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods many opportunities for sharing the light.

Living through a pandemic has given the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods many opportunities for sharing the light.

“She has a strong determination to live and has never let anyone do for her what she can do for herself.”

So impressed with the holiness of the bishop’s death, she reminds the sisters, “Especially let us never forget that if we wish to die like the Saints, we must live like them.”

“The future is yours.” Such a new chance for hope.

Mother Theodore had to stay in charge and oversee everyone else. A true “mother.” And on top of all that the bishop keeps causing problem after problem. All of this is compounded by Mother Theodore’s chronic poor health that leaves her ill or weak much of the time.

Sisters of Providence reflect on and demonstrate how to live the Gospel of Hope in this moment in history in this issue of HOPE magazine.

Mother Theodore felt burnt out and ready to give up. Can't we can all relate to having someone we care about urge us when we have lost hope?

As she goes on, we get a feel for more of the distress coming the sisters’ way from the bishop. “So far there has been nothing but complaints about us,” she writes.

"This process not only gave me hope for the future, it renewed my spirit in being around an atmosphere where people love and have compassion for others."

"But on a spiritual level, I was called to examine my own life in its entirety, my beliefs and practices, and my role with and for others in Creation. I had to grow in ways I never imagined I would. I had to explore ideas that hadn’t really entered my mind before as parts of our faith life."
