At his request she continued, out loud, to pray the prayers as she stepped back away from the execution table to take her place in the corner of the room.

Surely just as we know that God loves us always and is never far from us, so are we called to love one another always, no matter what.

We will continue to pray for death row inmates and their families, for all victims and their families, and for legislators, who hold in their hands the life or death of these inmates.
The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods spoke out and demonstrated against and prayed for all people impacted by the death penalty and their victims last week. In these photos we share some of their actions in response to the first federal executions in 17 years that took place on July 13, 15 and 17 at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, located just ten miles from the Sisters of Providence motherhouse at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

We will continue to pray for the victims and their families, for death row inmates and their families, and for legislators who determine life or death decisions.

Why do we perpetuate violence in the name of justice?

For these reasons and with all due respect we ask you to clarify your much-publicized praise for Mr. Trump’s leadership

One suggestion is to take action by adding your voice to the many calling for an end to the death penalty. You can sign pledges or send letters to elected officials. You can join groups in your state or join the National Action Team.
