Consisting of both grade and high schools, it was named Cheverus, after the first bishop of Boston. The high school closed in 1971, as not enough sisters were available and the pastor could not afford more lay teachers. The grade school continues, but with all lay teachers. This year seven Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will celebrate 70 years in the Congregation. In addition to other ministries, all seven sisters ministered in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis at one time, giving 103 total years of service at the places listed below.
