Words from ‘The Windy City’

Note: The following is a poem written by Sister Carol Meyers, SP.

Psalm 147:18

Sing a song of praise for the wonders of being for the triumph of standing firm against the wind.
God breathes and a mighty wind is unleashed embracing the earth sometimes gently, sometimes firmly.

Stand firm against the wind.
At times, a soft breeze caressing a face
At times, a raging storm stealing a home
Or stripping away all of one’s possessions

Stand firm against the wind.
Painful?
As when struggling to step out of a car
A crushing wind almost prevents it

Stand firm against the wind.
Unexpected?
As when it visits a perfectly planned party
And sends things flying

Stand firm against the wind
Disruptive?
As when it blows through the pile of leaves you raked
Erasing what you accomplished

Yes, life is like that … always to some degree windy … at times just right for sailing then harsh enough to capsize one’s boat.
Totter a bit, but then, regain balance and move forward escorted by life’s ever-present wind.
