Note: This is the third blog in a series of four written by Providence Associate Brad Crites.
Consider that unseen gravity keeps pulling a pendulum downward. The down-most point is the center, of course, and that downward pull also prevents the pendulum from going too far in either direction in the normal flow from side to side.
However, if the swing gets too out of hand, you might start to think that the bob will detach from the rod entirely and just fly off forcefully and wildly.

As we celebrate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we find our answer in the depth of divine love. The Sacred Heart is not a static symbol; it is a piercing reminder of a love that beats, bleeds and feels with human intensity.
When our pendulum swings hard toward suffering, doubt or overwhelming emotion, we may feel stretched to the limits of what we can bear – as if the momentum could break us. Love, conversely, possesses a powerful spiritual gravity.
Divine Love does not stop the pendulum to save us from the momentum. Instead, the Sacred Heart acts as an unbreakable pivot point – that hinge-pin at the top of the swing.
Because the love of Providence is anchored in our reality, we can swing into deep sorrow or towering joy without fear of being lost.
Our deepest feelings, our wildest swings, and our hidden hurts are all safely held, anchored to a heart that beats in perfect time with our own.
