Sisters hosting Carrie Newcomer concert
The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, welcome pilgrims and music lovers to share an evening with singer-songwriter, recording artist, educator and activist Carrie Newcomer.
The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 25, and will be in the Conservatory of Music on the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

General admission tickets cost $20 per person.
Sisters of Providence General Superior Sister Dawn Tomaszewski said bringing Newcomer to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will enhance the year-long Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope celebration.
“It seems a perfect way to honor Pope Francis’ dream that the jubilee year itself would engender hope in people,” Sister Dawn said. “Carrie’s folk music reflects her own belief in hope as a renewable source.”
The concert, celebrating harmonious hope together, is just one of the many ways the Sisters of Providence have been welcoming pilgrims to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods during Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope.
A Catholic Jubilee year takes place every 25 years and is considered a time of forgiveness, reconciliation and spiritual renewal.

Newcomer is well known for her musical depth and the progressive spiritual content of her songs, poetry and workshops, and for her continued work in justice, spiritual and interfaith communities, and health and hunger organizations.
“Music also has held a sacred place in the life of the Sisters of Providence,” Sister Dawn added. “It seems to me that this concert with Carrie Newcomer enables people to share in that tradition with us and to experience folk music at its best — music that is meaningful and lively, poetic and poignant.”
