Join the Lenten Food Waste Fast!

Join Sister Barbara Battista and others during this year’s Lenten Food Waste Fast!

Sister Barbara learned of the fast from the Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN) whose vision includes mobilizing a network which “partners with faith-based and civic organizations committed to justice, peace and care for our common home.”

Much like our own Providence Climate Agreement, the fast is part of the Ignatian Carbon Challenge.

Sign up and throughout Lent, you will receive weekly updates on living a “food-waste-free” life along with prayers and advocacy points regarding food waste issues.

If you choose to join in a contest by sharing a photo and reflection on each week’s challenge on Instagram with these tags: @ignatiansolidarity, @earthbeatncr and #LentenFoodWasteFast, you will be entered to win a prize. Please note, if you want to participate in the contest, your Instagram profile must be set to public.

The weekly challenge topics are:

  • Intro to a Food Waste Free Lent,
  • Organization/Storage,
  • Meal Planning,
  • Eating Out,
  • Industrial Food Waste,
  • Compost, and
  • Sustainable Celebrations.

This year’s Lenten Season begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26, and concludes on Holy Thursday, April 9, when the Triduum begins.

Are you up for the challenge? Invite your friends and family to join in. Sign up!
