Biography

Sister Regina Marie was born in Eaton, Ohio, and was the third of six children.

When she was 7, the family moved to Richmond, Indiana, so they could be taught by the Sisters of Providence, who also educated her mother. From Richmond, she entered the Congregation after completing high school at the Juniorate. Her sister, Patricia, entered the Congregation just two years later.

Sister Regina Marie professed first vows in 1951 and her final vows in 1956.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in music. She also has a master’s degree in piano performance from Indiana University. She also attended workshops in the Suzuki method which helped prepare her for teaching stringed instruments.

Of her ministries, Sister Regina Marie began teaching music at Ascension School in Halethrope, Maryland, shortly after professing first vows. She also taught at Maternity BVM School in Chicago, Immaculate Conception School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and St. Philip Neri School in Indianapolis.

Sister Regina Marie also taught at St. Charles School in Bloomington, Indiana, for 26 years (1956-1983).

“My students ranged from 3 years old to 16 years old,” she said. “These were beautiful, challenging and rewarding years.”

She has taught piano, stringed instruments, handbells, choir and organ.

Following her ministry at St. Charles School, Sister Regina Marie became the Director of Liturgy at the Motherhouse for 16 years before traveling to St. Meinrad Archabbey for a sabbatical. However, she became the organist for the Benedictine Monks at the Abbey Church. She returned to the Woods after 14 years at St. Meinrad.

Currently, Sister Regina Marie ministers as an organist at St. Mary’s Village Church, in addition to volunteer outreach and as a teacher in the Vigo County Indiana area. She has also become a gardener.

She said during her years in elementary school, she never missed a day of school.

“I think I missed a lot of fun,” she said.
