Sister Rosalie Cullen, formerly Sister James Clare

Sister Rosalie Cullen The prophet Isaiah proclaims: “Have you not known? Have you not heard? I am the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. I do not grow tired or weary; my understanding is unsearchable. I give power to the weak, and to those who have no might, I increase strength. The young may grow tired and weary and others may stumble and fall, but those who hope in Yahweh will have their strength renewed. They...

What does Mother Theodore have to say about …

“…be assured that in leaving the past to the mercy of God and the future to [God’s] Providence you will derive from your offering very great peace and very great consolation.” I wonder what Saint Mother Theodore Guerin had to say about joy? About worry? About hope? What was that Saint Mother Theodore quote about not doing all the good but only what we can do? Wouldn’t it be great if there was a searchable database with all of our...

...publications. It was called, ‘Simple as a Smile.’ It was about a young girl who had cerebral palsy and she couldn’t walk. She couldn’t talk. She and I communicated with body language,” Sister Betty added. What does she hope people can gain by reading her book and reflecting on her messages? “Less of a fear of the sense of touch and more willingness to use the body God gave us with our eyes or smile or whatever to communicate God’s...

A Haunting Desert Experience

...real the suffering and dangers so many migrants experience on their long walk of hope to freedom too often denied. The SOAWatch moved its yearly vigil from the gates of Ft. Benning to the militarized United States/Mexico border of Nogales, Ariz. The change of the location was the Movement’s desire to broaden the issue of its long-held concern against United States militarization both at home and abroad. Friday evening of the weekend long events, hundreds of migrants, students, religious community...

...and the Life. Freed from sin and growing in the holiness that leads to eternal life, may they be filled with the hope of the Spirit as they prepare themselves for their birth to new life in the waters of Baptism. At Easter, may we also be renewed in our hope of rising to new life with Christ. May the whole world, which God has created in love, flower in faith and good works and so receive new life. Amen!...

Sister Catherine White

...through her file, I found some quote from Cathy herself which will give us some insight into who she was as a Sister of Providence: “I hope I bring providential charism to our students and parents. The families in school have helped me deepen my understanding of what it means to struggle.” “The presence of sisters in the parish and school give the people hope. We try to empower the women of the area in many ways.” “The people deeply...

Congratulations to the 2016 gold and silver Jubilarians

...meek persons hungering for what rightfully is theirs though they are pushed to the sidelines by would-be leaders. To help you stay true to your calling, you surround yourselves with others who seek justice, who work for peace, who show mercy with nothing expected in return. Your ministries free you to “rejoice and be glad.” Yet, like our Mother Theodore, you know no one’s life is without its sufferings, its crosses. Her hope for us was that Providence “never deprive...

From darkness to the promise of new life in Easter

Embrace this beautiful season of hope, happiness and joy. Remember, through darkness light does come! When I met with my spiritual advisor recently, I told her that the season of Lent has gotten away from me. I don’t feel I have given much during this sacred time of the year. I feel I have wasted my time. And so I shared with her just what has had my attention, my emotions, these last several weeks. My office in Orland Park,...
