This National Day of Mourning is important. It serves as an important history lesson, not only for protesters to advocate for what they believe in, but also for all of us to remind us that the Thanksgiving holiday is very painful for many Native Americans.

Today we greet the dawn of Christmas 2020

May your Spirit fill me with creative ideas this Thanksgiving on new ways to connect with my family and friends, while respecting all of our needs to stay safe and stay well.

When I am in shock, please God help me to just keep breathing.
When I am numbed out, please let others reach in to touch my heart.
When I am in denial, give me the grace to accept what is true.

It is when I have done this kind of reflection and made life-giving decisions that I have allowed grief to be my teacher

Saint Mother Theodore once said, “Treat yourself as you treat others, with kindness and indulgence.” I firmly believe that, above all, to comfort oneself or another involves being gentle with oneself or another. It means allowing grief to be a teacher who reminds us that we are wired for resilience. We are meant to find meaning and purpose in life.

When my faith is shaken, please God, remind me of your love for me.
When I am lonely, help me to reach out and share my feelings with others.
When I am stuck in memories of the past, give me the graces I need to forgive and be forgiven.…
