Sister Rosemary Schmalz (formerly Sister Mary Ida)

Sister Rosemary Schmalz, formerly Sister Mary Ida, passed away on Tuesday, Septmeber 8, 2026, at Providence Health Care. She was 85-years-old and had been a Sister of Providence for 68 years.

Funeral services for Sister Rosemary will be announced as soon as they become available.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Sistern Rosemary to the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, are a congregation of Roman Catholic women religious (sisters) who minister throughout the United States and Taiwan. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence in 1840. The congregation has a mission of being God's Providence in the world by committing to performing works of love, mercy and justice in service among God's people.
