WVC to host ‘Lunch and Learn: Growing Mushrooms’

Join White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, for the upcoming “Lunch and Learn: Growing Mushrooms” program.

The program will take place from noon-3 p.m., on Saturday, August 8, in the White Violet Center Classroom.

Facilitators Cayle Moreo, Sustainability Director for Indiana State University’s Office of Sustainability; White Violet Center Farm Projects Assistant Ann Test; and Director of Outreach and Events for the Sisters of Providence Tara Elmore will offer more information about mushrooms and how they are a sustainable food source.

Participants will begin the program with a special lunch prepared by Chef Ann, featuring local mushrooms, some grown by Moreo, as well as eggs from the White Violet Center chickens and produce from the White Violet Center gardens.

Following the luncheon, learn how to grow your own gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. All in attendance will also make their own mushroom straw logs to take home.

Cost to attend is $40 and the registration deadline is August 5.

Register by calling 812-535-2946 or emailing mwimsett@spsmw.org.
