What’s Coming Up!

The month of October is typically one of the busiest months of the year for the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.

We begin the month with the Feast Day of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and toward the end of the month, we celebrate our Foundation Day.

This year, as we continue to celebrate Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope, we hosted singer-songwriter and activist Carrie Newcomer for a concert at the Conservatory of Music on the grounds of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. We hope all in attendance had a beautiful, spiritual time!

And there are plenty of other events scheduled to continue the Jubilee Year celebration!

Ecumenical Taizé Prayer service

There are two Taizé Prayer services remaining in 2025, including Tuesday, Nov. 11, and Tuesday, Dec. 9. Times for the virtual or in-person services are 7-8 p.m., EDT.

Each prayer service includes prayer, music, a time for silence and inspirational readings.

The theme for the 2025 services was “Widening Our Embrace.”

Be sure to join us for the services in 2026, on the second Tuesday of each month. The theme for the 2026 prayer gatherings is “Journey Toward Wholeness.”

Forest Meditations

There is still time to sign up to join Sister Corbin Hannah for the second Forest Meditations event, scheduled for 10-11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Join Sister Corbin and others for a guided meditation based on eco-spirituality by connecting with the Divine through nature.

WVC Alpacas and Friends Open Barn

And don’t forget to come out to the Woods from 1-4 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 29, for the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice Alpacas and Friends Open Barn.

Enjoy time with our alpacas while meeting some of our favorite chickens.

Christmas Fun at the Woods

And plan to spend Saturday, Dec. 13, from 1:30-4:30 p.m., at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for our annual Christmas Fun at the Woods celebration.

Celebrate the spirit of the season with the Sisters of Providence during an afternoon full of fun for the whole family. Enjoy time with crafting, alpaca visits, wagon rides, storytelling, face painting and more!

As the Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope comes to a close, don’t forget that on a daily basis throughout the year, we offer self-guided and guided tours of the grounds, including pilgrimage visits to the Church of the Immaculate Conception and Shrine of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, both of which were designated official Jubilee Pilgrimage sites within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

As 2025 was very busy, with so many guests and pilgrims coming to the Woods to enjoy all of its beauty, 2026 plans to be just as busy.

During the coming year, we will be celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the canonization of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on Oct. 15, 2006, and her feast day was designated for Oct. 3. She was the first Indiana saint and the eighth Catholic saint designated in the United States.

We will also celebrate the 30-year anniversary of White Violet Center for Eco-Justice! The Sisters of Providence ministry is known for its alpacas, chickens, orchards, bee hives, nature trail, the 5-acre USDA certified organic garden and the White Violet Farm Store.

Stay tuned for upcoming events regarding these 2026 celebrations!
