Join us for ‘An Evening with Carrie Newcomer!’
“Bringing singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to help us celebrate Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope seems a perfect way to honor Pope Francis’ dream that the jubilee year itself would engender hope in people.” — Sisters of Providence General Superior Sister Dawn Tomaszewski

A Warm Welcome
We want to extend a warm welcome to all pilgrims and music lovers to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday, Oct. 25, for “An Evening with Carrie Newcomer.”
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., and will take place in the Conservatory of Music on the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Sister Dawn says having Carrie come to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for the show will enhance the year-long jubilee celebration. A Catholic Jubilee year takes place every 25 years and is considered a time of forgiveness, reconciliation and spiritual renewal.
“Carrie’s folk music reflects her own belief in hope as a renewable resource,” Sister Dawn said. “She sees the practice of active hope as a way to keep us resilient and centered in love, compassion and faith.

“Author Barbara Kingsolver has called her a ‘minister of the wide-eyed gospel of hope and grace.’ Who better to help us become pilgrims of hope during this jubilee year?”
A Sacred Place
The concert has been one of many ways we have welcomed pilgrims to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods this jubilee year.
“Jubilee pilgrims have been visiting many of our sacred places on campus during this past year — the church, our shrines, including the Shrine of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin,” Sister Dawn added.
Carrie is well known for the depth of her music and the spiritual content of her songs, poetry and workshops.
“Music also has held a sacred place in the life of the Sisters of Providence,” Sister Dawn said. “It seems to me that this concert with Carrie enables people to share in that tradition with us and to experience folk music at its best — music that is meaningful and lively, poetic and poignant.”
General admission tickets cost $20 per person.
