Volunteer opportunities await at the Woods!

No matter what your skills are, there is a perfect volunteer position for you with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana!

We who are Christians are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. We are also called to use our own unique gifts and skills to show the goodness of God.

“To each individual, the manifestation of the spirit has been given for some benefit. To one is given through the Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another, the expression of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit.”

(1 Corinthians 12:7-9)

This verse continues to list many more skills and ways the Spirit works in each and every one of us.

One of my personal favorite populations to work with is senior citizens. God shaped me in such a way that when I work with seniors, I am uplifted, happy and feel I am making a difference. That is God’s spirit working in me, bringing some company and love to someone who may not feel loved.

A Unique Calling

If all of us find our unique calling, our one-of-a-kind God-given skills that can be used to assist our broken world, the community will be better because of it.

If you want a hand in becoming aware of your unique gifts, I encourage you to take the S.H.A.P.E. personality quiz. Designed in part by Gary Smalley’s Personality Test and Saddleback Church’s S.H.A.P.E. Assessment, S.H.A.P.E. stands for spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality and experiences; and can help you realize your full potential, the gifts the Spirit has given you to make a mark on our broken world.

If you do not want to take the online quiz, I suggest you find a place alone with God and ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I love to do?
  • What do I dream of doing?
  • What fascinates me?
  • What can I talk about, think about, and study all day without getting bored?
  • Where have I been most effective in my life?

These questions can help you find what ministry is calling your heart. No matter what your skills are, you can make a difference!

Let’s get to work!

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”
