Biography
Sister Mary Richard was born Mary Catherine Griffith on March 16, 1915. She died on Oct. 18, 2009. She was 94 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 75 years.
Sister Mary Richard entered the Congregation on July 19, 1934. She professed first vows on Jan. 23, 1937, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1942.
Her education ministry began in 1937 at Our Lady of Mercy, Chicago. She taught in many other classrooms in Illinois, as well as at schools in Indiana, Massachusetts, St. Louis and at Manchester, Mo. From 1978 to 1981, she ministered on the general administration staff at the Woods, before traveling to Los Angeles to minister as business manager and bookkeeper of Our Lady of Loretto Parish. She also ministered in parish service at St. Elisabeth, Van Nuys, Calif., before returning to the Woods in 1992.
Sister Mary Richard loved music and art, especially oil painting. She also made pieces of jewelry.
