Biography
Sister Margaret Ann, formerly Sister Ann Gerard, was born on December 16, 1927. She died on December 7, 2017. She was 89 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 71 years.
Sister Margaret Ann entered the Congregation on January 9, 1946. She professed first and final vows on August 15, 1948 and 1953, respectively.
She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education, and also earned a master’s degree from Indiana State University.
For 43 years, Sister Margaret Ann ministered in education, teaching at schools in Illinois, Indiana and Oklahoma. Her first teaching ministry took place at Our Lady of Sorrows in Chicago in 1948. She also taught at St. Angela in Chicago for 24 years. After retiring from teaching, Sister Margaret Ann began a ministry in holistic health care in the Chicago area. She returned to the Motherhouse at age 83.
Sister Regina Gallo said Sister Margaret Ann was a “woman of true purpose, who lived a life of purpose all the way up to the end.”
