Join the Land Justice Futures (formally Nuns & Nones) Focus Communities* to view two special film screenings hosted exclusively for Land Justice Futures communities. Farming While Black is an incredible documentary that lifts up why ecological and racial healing are intimately and necessarily intertwined. The film will be screened twice on two separate dates.

This feature film is about the rising generation of young black farmers. Join Leah Penniman, co-founder of Soul Fire Farm, who reflects on the plight of Black farmers in the United States, from the height of Black-owned farms at 14 percent in 1910 to less than 2 percent today. Leah and her Soul Fire Farm compatriots help propel a growing generation finding strength in the deep historical knowledge of African agrarianism – and its potential to save the planet.

* The Land Justice Future’s Focus Community Program is a community of practice for women religious who are ready to create bold, just, and creative plans for the lands they love. Starting with a 2-year cohort experience, this program builds power, connection, imagination, and practical know-how among communities while they build land justice into the heart of their property plans.
