As we move through the seasons of spring and summer we thought our readers might enjoy this short reflection and a sampling of poems written by the late Sister Mary Catherine Keene, SP

Though the scriptures are filled with reminders that, “God is near,” it often doesn’t feel that way to most of us humans. God can seem awfully quiet sometimes. And I might wonder about my own need for hearing aids when it comes to God.

So here we are today with no ashes for our foreheads. Yet it does feel like we are holding a handful of ashes from this past year. We are holding what is left of our lives from this transformation by a pandemic fire. So, I’d like to have us take a moment of quiet to hold in our imaginations these ashes … the experiences of loss, of change, of challenge, of purification, whatever this year has been for you.

The postulant sees what it means to be sister to one another, to pray, celebrate, have fun together and to experience the sacred in the ordinary. She is invited into our common efforts to be Providence through sustainable living, accountability to one another and respect for differences.
