Celebrating National Catholic Schools Week

National Catholic Schools Week has been recognized since 1974 as a celebration of Catholic education in America.

The week begins every year on the final Sunday in January. This year, the celebration begins on January 28 and will conclude on February 3.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Catholic Schools United in Faith and Community.”

Our Archives Department scoured through all of the photos they have of the many Sisters of Providence who have ministered as teachers throughout the country and we will share those with you in this blog.

I enjoyed the photos so much. I thought of my grade school and high school years with the Sisters of Providence and the dedication and commitment they shared with their students.
The Sisters and my parents instilled the importance of spirituality in my family.
    I’ll always be grateful ♥️🙏

Growing up in Chicago, Il and going to Saint Marks school in Chicago The sisters taught us well. And we Respected
them. They taught Religion, the Purpose of going to mass everyday & Sunday with the Family. When you
graduated you knew the value of education. We had Sister Veronica Ann & Sister Francis Denise.
They instilled us with a Good Education & the meaning of what it is like to be a good Catholic.

Great pictures! Sr. Joan Matthews was at Holy Redeemer Church in College Park, MD in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. She sang in our choir and used to visit my infirm mother, even playing the piano for her. Several Srs. Of Providence lived at and taught in our Holy Redeemer School. God bless and keep them all!
