Biography
Sister Dorothy, formerly Sister Francis Ellen, was born Dorothy May Hucksoll on Sept. 16, 1925. She died on May 25, 2015. She was 89 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 71 years.
Sister Dorothy entered the Congregation on July 22, 1944. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1947 and 1952, respectively.
For close to 40 years, Sister Dorothy ministered in education, including 23 years as a classroom teacher, one as a principal, and 15 years as a reading specialist. She taught in classrooms in schools in Indiana, Illinois and North Carolina. She came back to the Woods in 1988 and began ministering to the sick in various capacities, including health care and peace and justice efforts.
Sister Dorothy cared for Sister Wendy Workman (RIP) and eventually wrote the book, “Sister Wendy’s Story,” in her memory.
