Sisters to host second virtual mini-retreat on religious life
All single women ages 18-42 who are interested in learning more about Catholic Sisters are invited to a virtual mini-retreat from 7:30-8:45 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 6. You will join Sister of Providence Sister Arrianne Whittaker, SP, who will share what religious life is like today.
Sister Arrianne, who professed final vows with the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, on Aug. 20, 2022, said these types of retreats will benefit all single Catholic women who are considering religious life.
“I think that any chance to glimpse what our life in community is like is helpful for women who are discerning,” Sister Arrianne said. “It helps you understand who we are. It also provides opportunity for women to ask questions about what life as a Sister of Providence or woman religious is like.”
During the informal gathering, participants can reflect on what religious life is like in the 21st century as Sister Arrianne will share about her ministry as a medical doctor and about her life as a Sister of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. She will also answer any questions participants may have.
“Religious life today still holds the past as a reminder of who we are today,” Sister Arrianne said. “Today, however, it looks very different than it looked even 50 years ago. But even with all of the changes, we are still a community.
“We have many traditions that we cherish and continue this day. We pray together and love to play together. We share a mission that has been present since Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, to bring about God’s Providence through acts of love, mercy and justice.”
