Reflections from Sister Denise
Sister Denise Wilkinson was the general superior of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, from 2006 to 2016. As a gifted writer and speaker, she is often called upon to share her reflections. These are some of her writings.

Dare to be merciful
“You persistently encourage us to build not destroy, … to have mercy towards the one we see as least deserving or the one who has hurt us deeply and to love, love, love and love more.” Sister Denise Wilkinson dares us to look more deeply at mercy in our lives.

A reflection for Easter
'Staying positive. Pray for me.'

Reflection for Lent
I wish you well in celebrating Lent in whatever way makes sense to you as a child of a loving God.

Christmas Reflection 2015
Then I came upon a news story titled “Good Samaritan Rescues Mom at Airport.” This news story led me to the movie It’s A Wonderful Life featuring the angel Clarence Odbody. Those of us old enough to remember this film gained valuable life lessons by watching George Bailey struggling with doubt because of his lack of success in life.

Mercy
The Sisters of Providence and our Providence Associates have a natural affinity for The Holy Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis. This Holy Year begins December 8, 2015 and ends November 20, 2016. Pope Francis states in his proclamation…

Thanksgiving Reflection
If you Google “thanksgiving day” as I did, be prepared for a wide variety of articles, Wikipedia entries and “further references.”

Pentecost 2015
I’m often asked to write a blog for feast days or holy seasons — Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Easter; and I’m okay with those. However, I’ve been asked a few times to write for the feast of Pentecost. I dread it.…

Spring anthems of Alleluia: Easter 2015
How wonderful to be reassured — once again this Easter — that Jesus has been raised, has disappeared from the tomb AND with me/us still.

Palm Sunday
My question to Jean Brown, our administrative assistant: “If you had to write a reflection on Palm Sunday, what would you write?” Her instant response: “I’d start with the palms.” My response to her: “ Why palms?” Jean’s reply set…

Celebrate the Light in our lives, amidst the world’s darkness, this season
I think I was in graduate school when I learned the phrase “cognitive dissonance.” Definition? Psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously. What in heaven’s sake brings this to my mind at this time of year? I…

“To be present to all that happens …” – Sister Denise reflects on Advent
Sister Denise Wilkinson, general superior, encourages us to "be in the present" this Advent season - to be like Mary.
