Biography

Sister Mary Moloney, formerly Sister Mary John, was baptized at Saint Ignatius Parish in Rogers Park in Chicago. She said she received her first communion at Queen of All Saints in Sauganash.

“I was educated by the Benedictine Sisters of Saint Scholastica in Chicago through grade school and high school,” Sister Mary said.

Sister Mary said while she was an infant, she met Sisters Francis Raphael and Helen Agatha (RIP) at the Providence High School Convent with “dirty knees from crawling on the floor there.”

“I was always told I was registered at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College as an infant,” Sister Mary continued. “I know from photographic evidence that I was outside LeFer Hall as an infant in my mother’s arms.”

After attending Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College for three years, Sister Mary entered the Congregation on Sept. 12, 1960, as the first class in Owens Hall.

Sister Mary professed first vows on Aug. 15, 1963, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1968.

As a teacher, she has ministered at Our Lady of Providence High School in Clarksville, Ind.; Ladywood and Ladywood-St. Agnes in Indianapolis; and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Sister Mary said she did her CPE training at Indiana University Medical Center and in 1976, traveled to Oklahoma with Sisters Gilchrist Conway and Dorothy Rasche, where they ministered in seven parishes.

After ministering in Oklahoma, she ministered as the Director of Evangelization at Divine Savior in Norridge, Ill.

Currently, Sister Mary ministers in outreach in Terre Haute, Indiana.
