Biography
Sister Mary Alice, formerly Sister Joseph Gertrude was born on June 12, 1944. She died on March 5, 2011. She was 66 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 48 years.
Sister Mary Alice entered the Congregation on Sept. 17, 1962. She professed first vows on Aug. 15, 1965, and final vows on March 16, 1974.
She began her teaching ministry in 1967 at Our Lady of Mercy, Chicago, before beginning a ministry as coordinator of religious education at Our Lady of Mercy Parish and teaching at St. Andrew, Chicago. From 1972 to 1978, she ministered as the coordinator of parish religious education at St. Bernadette, Evergreen Park, Illinois. She was also the director of novices from 1994 to 2000.
She was the first director of the Providence Associates.
