Biography
Sister Margaret Ann, formerly Sister Marie Nicholas, was born Margaret Ann McNamara on Aug. 5, 1935. She died on Sept. 1, 2010. She was 75 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 55 years.
Sister Margaret Ann entered the Congregation on July 22, 1955. She professed first vows on Jan. 23, 1958, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1963.
She began teaching in 1960 at Holy Family, New Albany, Ind. She taught in many other schools in Indiana and Illinois. She also ministered at a principal at several of these schools. Sister Margaret Ann also ministered at the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as an educator coordinating the testing and certification of medical personnel. In 1996, she was elected to the Congregation’s General Council.
She is known to be one of the first sisters of the Congregation to work in a non-Church related institution.
