Sister Brigid Mary entered the Congregation and July 22, 1959, and professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1967. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
For 49 of her 59 years as a Sister of Providence, she taught primary and middle grades in schools in Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and Massachusetts. She retired from teaching in 2013, but stayed in Massachusetts until returning to the Motherhouse in 2018 to dedicate herself to the ministry of prayer.
Sister Brigid Mary was taught by the Sisters of Providence at Cheverus School in Malden and returned to minister as a teacher there for 16 years.
It has been said that Sister Brigid Mary’s wit was “legendary.” Sister Jane Iannaccone, who lived with Sister Brigid Mary for a time, said “She was always ready with a humorous comment and quick retort.”
