Prayer for those grieving the death of a parent with whom they had a difficult relationship

My parent:
I must try to remember that you did the best you could.
Your toolbox was only as good as those who packed it,
as good as your circumstances and your past would allow.
And it was not enough to make things right between us.
Only now, feeling the lack of you, the lack of a happy ending,
may we try to resolve our difficulties.
I’m sorry for not always responding to you in love.
I’m sorry for our disagreements and for not understanding that
the roadmap you were following left out landmarks we might have shared.
Help me to forgive what was lacking between us.
May God-Who-Is-Love help us to remember what was good between us.
May God-Who-Is-Mercy bring healing to me in my grief.
May God-Who-Is-Justice enable me to avoid the pitfalls of my upbringing.
I pray for your soul, at peace, at last, with God.
Please pray for me.
Amen.
