Prayer

Prayer for facing job insecurity

I’m hanging on by the skin of my teeth, God.
Every day I hear those dreaded words:
“layoffs,” “downsizing,” “restructuring.”
We know what they mean, don’t we?
My job is dangling by a thread.
I see it swaying before me,
and I feel powerless.

Shore me up, You who make
all things possible. Grant me hope.
Give me strength. Help me be open
to what may be — fewer hours,
less money, even a change in jobs.

If this must be so, I will need your guidance.
You are the reference who always has my back,
the supporter who makes the way sure.

Please see my family through this uncertainty
and into brighter days.

Amen.
