A prayer for the loss of a relationship

Today I mourn for what used to be, for the days when things were easy.
S/he and I made memories together, bright plans and private jokes,
things we held in our pockets, close to the heart, always ready to share them again,
our laughter bubbling to the surface and washing over us in comforting waves.
Now it is over. Our ties severed painfully, or simply faded away from disuse.
We are not what we were.
What will we do with the trinkets we collected?
Will the memories hurt, a silent stab? Or will they recede roaring like the tide?
Only you know, Creator and Guide. You are the only friend who never goes away.
Help me deal with the loss of this once-dear ally. Heal the hole in my heart.
Fill it with people who can mend me and with your own sweet, perfect love.
Let me remember that with you, I am never alone.
Amen.
