Sisters of Providence

Sisters of Providence

The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, are a congregation of Roman Catholic women religious (sisters) who minister throughout the United States and Taiwan. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence in 1840. The congregation has a mission of being God's Providence in the world by committing to performing works of love, mercy and justice in service among God's people.

Celebrations, decisions, being community and the future: SP General Chapter 2021

The 40th General Chapter of the Sisters of Providence may have been delayed by Covid-19, but it wasn't stopped. Members of the Providence Community gathered from near and far at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Oct. 21-25. It was so good to be together again! We prayed and played, planned and listened and selected leadership for the next five years. We have so much to be thankful for!

Laudato Si’ Platform Commitment Statement

This commitment is made in love, mercy and justice, knowing that we are participating in God’s Providential work of transformation, and trusting in “that Providence that so far has never failed us.”

Leaning and leading like Saint Mother Theodore

me in the community’s history with a particular responsibility on behalf of our mission has so challenged me to ‘lean on Providence,’ that I know I will never be the same. It has been a grace-filled time for me, during which I have been challenged beyond measure to ‘give the Holy Spirit free access to my mind and heart.’
