Sister Dorothy Gartland has been a Sister of Providence for more than 70 years. She spent many years as a teacher and school administrator before helping to co-found 8th Day Center for Justice in Chicago in 1974. She is retired from 15 years as the director of the after school homework program at Providence Family Services (PFS) in Chicago. She currently lives and volunteers at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
