‘A Walk with Grief,’ featuring Sister Connie Kramer

Sister Constance “Connie” Kramer, formerly Sister Marita, recently lost her battle with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). She passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. Sister Connie was 82-years-old and was a Sister of Providence for 60 years.

Among her many ministries, Sister Connie spent many years as a spiritual director, focusing as a grief specialist.

In one of her final acts, Sister Connie chose to speak about her final journey while sharing about life, love and loss with Christine Turo-Shields of the Kenosis Counseling Center for the StoryCorps Archive project.

It was the wish of Sister Connie and the General Council that her interview be shared publicly. Enjoy this interview with Sister Connie.

The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, are a congregation of Roman Catholic women religious (sisters) who minister throughout the United States and Taiwan. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence in 1840. The congregation has a mission of being God's Providence in the world by committing to performing works of love, mercy and justice in service among God's people.

  1. Wow! I’m glad this was included in the recent SP newsletter otherwise I may have missed. S. Connie was truly amazing. Her life experience and words of wisdom brought tears to my eyes many times. She will continue to bless the SP community with her heavenly prayers and this beautiful interview.
