Art is prayer
Sister Jody O’Neil, SP, finds spirituality in creating works of art.
“Art is a connection of my spirit and the spirit beyond me,” said Sister Jody.
Sister Jody creates in the Roethele Art Studio/Gallery at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. Her artistry is a ministry of the Sisters of Providence.
“I love being here because of the beauty of this place and the creation that surrounds me,” Sister Jody said. “That is what captured me when I first came here, back when I was in 7th grade.
”Sister Jody specializes in both acrylic and oil but has a vast knowledge in all art mediums.
“I also design and execute for the Church of the Immaculate Conception an interior environment consistent with guidelines of the liturgical year and special Sisters of Providence celebrations.”
Sister Jody expressed that creating art frees her spirit and lifts her mind and heart.
“I am always amazed at what comes from experimenting with art,” said Sister Jody. “For me, art is prayer.”
Lovely celebration of a gifted SP and her ministry. We are richly blessed by the presence of Jody at The Woods. Her artistic expression in creating a sacred liturgical environment for our Church is very special and greatly appreciated.
So true. Art, music and dance are part of God’s creative spirit within us. Artists see the world in a unique way – then they share it with others.
Thanks, Jody
Jody, thanks sharing this and so much more in the church and various rooms, hallways, and buildings at SMW!
I think it’s time for an open house at Roethle Studio…. actually any season would be good.
Thanks for sharing your colorful, lively, artistic Providence Spirituality!!
Congratulations on your most recent award, Jody, and thank you for making our surroundings even more prayerful and colorful.
So beautiful Sr. Jody. MY MOTHER Josephine loved painting nature and fixing up broken statues mostly of Mary
