Biography
Sister Mary Rosita was born Marie Anna Thewes on May 5, 1922. She died on Feb. 25, 2009. She was 86 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 66 years.
Sister Mary Rosita entered the Congregation on Feb. 1, 1943. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1945 and 1950, respectively.
Her culinary ministry began in 1945, as she served convents at Our Lady of Sorrows (Chicago); Marywood (Anaheim, California) and Marywood (Evanston, Illinois) until 1949, feeding sisters and hungry young girls from boarding schools. In 1949, she returned to the Woods to minister in Providence kitchen and Lourdes Infirmary kitchen for 19 years. She also ministered for Bishops George J. Biskup and Edward T. O’Meara in Indianapolis.
She was known for her gracious hospitality.
