Biography
Sister Mary, formerly Sister Jolene, was born on September 5, 1946, in Celestine, Indiana.
She entered the Congregation on September 12, 1964, professing first vows on August 15, 1967, and final vows on October 7, 1973.
Of her ministries, Sister Mary has served as a grade school teacher in grades three through eight at Saint Mary’s Village, in Fort Wayne, and in Indianapolis. She also ministered with youth from 1981 to 1990 and as a pastoral associate in the Diocese of Evansville. She has also ministered as the Director of Novices for the Congregation from 2000 to 2007. Currently, she ministers as a pastoral associate at Holy Rosary Church in Evansville.
Sister Mary said she is the fourth generation in her family (on the Mundy side) who is a Sister of Providence. The first member of her family to enter the Congregation – her great-great-aunt Sister Sympharosa Fischer – came while the last of Mother Theodore’s companions was still living. Other family members to be sisters included Sister Mathilda Mundy and Sister Helena Renner, her great-aunt and her father’s first cousin, respectively.
Sister Mary said she is a “great lover of nature and the simple things of life!” She also enjoys a variety of foods from different cultures and “thoroughly enjoys cooking and baking.”
