Sister Marie Eleanor was born Irene Mary Shaw on Feb. 27, 1916. She died on Aug. 27, 2010. She was 94 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 77 years.
Sister Marie Eleanor entered the Congregation on Aug. 22, 1933. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1936 and 1942, respectively.
She ministered as a teacher or administrator for more than five decades, beginning in 1936 at Annunciation in Brazil, Indiana. Sister Marie Eleanor taught at other schools in Indiana, as well as schools in Maryland, California and Illinois. In 1993, she returned home to the Woods and provided community service.
She was known for her sense of humor and being of quick wit.
