Biography

Sister Gertrude Marian was born Marie Cecilia on Sept. 3, 1912. She died Jan. 24, 2009. She was 96 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 81 years.

Sister Gertrude Marian entered the Congregation on Sept. 7, 1927. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1930 and 1935, respectively.

Sister Gertrude Marian began her education ministry at St. Mel School in Chicago in 1930. She also ministered in schools in Chicago and Indiana. Sister Gertrude Marian also ministered for four years as administrator of Owens Hall at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and seven years in health care at the Woods.

After returning home to the Woods, Sister Gertrude Marian would fill a vehicle up with sisters and drive to the Dairy Queen in Terre Haute for ice cream.
