Biography

Sister Gerry, formerly Sister Marie Richard, was born Geraldine Margaret Cavanaugh on Sept. 1, 1925. She died on Oct. 14, 2007. She was 82 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 61 years.

Sister Gerry entered the Congregation on July 22, 1944. She professed first and final vows on Jan. 23, 1947 and 1952, respectively.

Sister Gerry ministered in education for more than 40 years. She taught at schools in Indiana, Oklahoma and Illinois. Sister Gerry also ministered at the University of Notre Dame in the Center for Pastoral Ministries. In 1981, she began a ministry as coordinator of the Marywood (Evanston, Ill.) Alumnae Association, a position she continued until her death.

Sister Gerry was known as an avid reader and encouraged others to do so regularly.
