Sister Catherine Mayer

Sister Catherine, formerly Sister Catherine Alma, was born on Jan. 23, 1931. She died on Jan. 29, 2013. She was 82 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 64 years.

Sister Catherine entered the Congregation in January 1949. She professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1956.

Sister Catherine began her teaching ministry in Newburgh, Ind., for a handful of years, before teaching at other schools in Indiana, Illinois and Massachusetts. She also ministered at Costa Catholic, Galesburg, Ill., for many years as a teacher or administrative assistant until 2002. She returned to the Woods in 2005.

She was known for her dry sense of humor and her hearty laugh.
