Biography

Sister Catherine, formerly Sister Jean Loretto, was born Mary Catherine on May 2, 1921. She died April 16, 2015. She was 93 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 76 years.

Sister Catherine graduated from the Juniorate at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, and entered the Congregation on Jan. 5, 1939. She professed first and final vows on Aug. 15, 1941 and 1947, respectively.

Sister Catherine ministered for more than 50 years as a teacher in Massachusetts, Indiana, Illinois and Washington, D.C., including 18 years at Mother Theodore Guerin High School in River Grove, Illinois. She returned to the Woods in 1999 and ministered in residential services.

During her time at Mother Theodore Guerin High School, Sister Catherine was known to “love to go a wanderin’” on the CTA, mapping out routes in advance of her travels.
