Biography
Sister Anita was born Elizabeth Jane Bechert on April 23, 1927. She died on November 12, 2017. She was 90 years old and had been a Sister of Providence for 71 years.
Sister Anita entered the Congregation in 1946. She made first vows in 1948 and final vows in 1953.
She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree from Indiana State University.
Sister Anita ministered as a teacher for 37 years in schools in Indiana, Illinois, Maryland and California. Her first teaching ministry took place at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Village School in 1947. She also ministered as a principal and administrative assistant. She also ministered as the Congregation’s Director of Office of Records, beginning in 1992.
Sister Anita took part in seven AIDS walks to raise funds for financial assistance for HIV and AIDS victims.
