Mandy Lynch has always felt a need to help others. Last summer she volunteered with the Sisters of Providence and it was during this time that she found her passion for nursing home administration, leading her down a new career path.

When I was a kid, Lent was all about “giving up.” Maybe that’s why I didn’t particularly like it. So, how is Lent different for me now as an adult? How is it different for you?

“My favorite part of being a Providence Associate is coming to the Woods for events open to associates, and sometimes, when I can, coming for Mass. I enjoy being among like-minded people to whom you do not have to explain a pursuit of life in the Spirit,” Providence Associate Joanna Dailey says.

Mother Theodore and her companions endured dark, cramped quarters, rough waters and storms on their journey from France to America. The new permanent shrine to Saint Mother Theodore will have a replica of the small space that she lived in during her travels aboard the “Cincinnati.”

Standing here at this used clothing exchange rack, it all suddenly makes sense. THIS is how it happened. A group of sisters in the United States in the 1960s looks down at what they are wearing and ask, why are we wearing this? Oh, yeah, it’s because we’ve been passing these clothes around for years and years and years.

A reflection on simplicity and sharing that never goes out of fashion.

“What I like about being at the Sisters of Providence and what excites me about it is I’m never standing still. … We’re continually calling and challenging ourselves to how we relate to our God and how we relate to the world,” Sister Janice shares in six short video clips now available on our website.

The Sisters of Providence have a long history of mission work in Jasper, Ind. This week marked the 172nd year the school has been in operation. St. Joseph school located in Jasper, Ind., was the first establishment of the Sisters of Providence outside of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

The National Shrine of Our Lady of Providence will be blessed in its new location at 4:30 p.m., April 6.
