Sisters of Providence celebrate Senior Jubilees

Sixteen Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, are celebrating senior jubilees this year.

Sister Claire Hanson, formerly Sister Brigid Eileen, was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Currently, she ministers as a driver, receptionist at the Administration Building, and volunteer at Providence Food Pantry for the Sisters of Providence.

Sister Claire entered the Congregation on September 12, 1965, from St. Rose Parish, Chelsea. She professed first vows on August 15, 1968, and final vows on September 30, 1973.

She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Indiana State University and a master’s degree in elementary education/early childhood from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Sister Josephine Bryan, formerly Sister Joseph Anthony, was born in Hollywood, Maryland. Currently, she ministers as a volunteer visitor at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Chula Vista, California.

Sister Suzanne entered the Congregation on July 22, 1955, from St. Ambrose Parish, Cheverly, Maryland. She professed first vows on January 23, 1958, and final vows on August 15, 1963.

She has a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in addition to a master’s degree in U.S. history from Indiana University. Sister Suzanne also has a doctorate in U.S. history from St. Louis University and a master’s of science in education from the University of Southern Illinois in Carbondale.

Sister Eileen Rose Bonner was born in Whiting, Indiana. Currently, she ministers in prayer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Eileen Rose entered the Congregation on January 8, 1950, from Sacred Heart Parish, Whiting. She professed first vows on August 15, 1952, and final vows on August 15, 1957.

She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College as well as a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University.

Sister Ruth Johnson, formerly Sister Joseph Maurice, was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Currently, she ministers as a fiber artist and volunteer for White Violet Center for Eco-Justice at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Ruth entered the Congregation on February 2, 1950, from Sacred Hearts Parish, Malden, Massachusetts. She professed first vows on August 15, 1952, and final vows on August 15, 1957.

She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College as well as a master’s degree in education from Duke University.

Sister Dorothy entered the Congregation on February 2, 1950, from St. Patrick Parish, Indianapolis. She professed first vows on August 15, 1952, and final vows on August 15, 1957.

She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in addition to a master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University. Sister Dorothy also has a master’s degree in theology from Mundelein.
