Sisters of Providence to host ceasefire prayer vigil
The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, are inviting persons of all faith traditions to join them for a prayer vigil regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The prayer vigil will call for a ceasefire and peace in Gaza and Israel. It is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 21, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, located 10 minutes northwest of downtown Terre Haute.

A livestream of the vigil will also take place on the Congregation’s Facebook page.
Sisters of Providence Justice Promoter Sister Barbara Battista, SP, coordinated the vigil and said the ongoing crisis “demands immediate public action, prayer and witness.”
“For believers, this includes sharing our pleas for a just peace, especially now during this Lenten season and as our Muslim sisters and brothers observe the holy month of Ramadan,” Sister Barbara continued. “At 1 p.m., on Thursday, March 21, many who seek peace will gather at the U.S. Capitol for a nonviolent witness to peace.
“In solidarity with all who desire peace, we will gather at 7 p.m., in the Church of the Immaculate Conception and raise our voices together, asking our Creator for guidance and strength as we urge those in power to do the courageous work of nonviolent peacemaking.”

Tell the White House and Congress: Ceasefire Now
Experts now warn of an imminent famine in Gaza now due to the privations of war.
Sixty-eight members of Congress have publicly called for a ceasefire and President Biden has signaled that his unconditional support of the Israeli war strategy is eroding. That is why now is the time to write to the President and your Members of Congress. Ask them to support a ceasefire, the release of all hostages and more robust humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.
