Leaning on Saint Mother Theodore Guerin

Sister Mary Ann DeFazio, SP

I love so many things about our Mother Theodore. I love how she always kept her focus on being an instrument of God’s Providence. Throughout her life she did not let hardships or difficulties distract from her mission.

She had a wonderful wisdom which she did not hesitate to share. Her letters were gifts to her sisters and have been a blessing to the community through the years.

When I have had difficulties in my life, Mother Theodore’s words were of enormous help. During one particularly painful period I found these words of hers drifting through my heart and soul: “Lean with all your weight on Providence, my dear daughters, and you will find yourselves well supported.” Mother Theodore’s faith and confidence in God’s love reached me at a time when I really needed help. I had felt so alone and adrift, sure that I could not be supported — not with all my weight.

Her words still remain in my heart, reminding me of God’s love.

  1. Sister Mary Ann, your simple testament illuminated by your sweet smile is a reminder to me as well, that I don’t have to take today’s journey alone. No, I have our Mother Theodore walking with me, carrying some of the weight of my difficulties. I feel blessed.
