Throwback Thursday: Remembering Commencement 1987
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College conducted its 179th commencement on Saturday, May 7, as a total of 92 students received degrees, including the first male student to earn an on-campus degree.
Keeping with the spirit of graduations, here is some additional history.
This photo – taken in 1987 – shows the first graduates of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology Program.
In the photo are (from left) then college president Sister of Providence Barbara Doherty, Rev. Donald Osborn, Sister Ann Christopher Herald, OP, and Sisters of Providence Marilyn Herber and Ann Margaret O’Hara.
The program was the college’s first master’s program in the school’s 147-year history at the time. In addition, Rev. Osborn was the first man to ever receive a degree from the college.
Sister Barbara was the president of the college from 1984-98. Currently, she ministers in prayer. In addition, Sister Marilyn currently ministers as a volunteer at Miracle Place and the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home in Indianapolis, while Sister Ann Margaret ministers as the General Treasurer for the Congregation.
Sister Ann Margaret also ministered as the General Superior for the Sisters of Providence from 2001-06. #throwbackthursday #tbt

What a cool memory! This is the year I was born. 🙂
