Pictorial book honoring the Sisters of Providence to be issued later this year!
The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College began preparations for their 175th anniversary in 2014.
The year-long celebration officially began on Oct. 22, 2014, on Foundation Day, with the theme of “Rooted for Tomorrow.” During the year-long celebration, several events have taken place.
And now, The Tribune Star is in the process of creating a pictorial book, “175 Years,” featuring and honoring both the Sisters of Providence and the college.
The book will highlight the past, present and future of the Sisters of Providence and the college, including many rarely seen photos.
According to information provided by The Tribune Star, the book is “two books in one,” with the college featured on one side and the Sisters of Providence featured on the other.
The book may be ordered through The Tribune Star. You can pre-order the book by Sept. 25, at a discounted price. It will ship on Oct. 13.
“175 Years” came together after representatives from the Tribune Star approached the Congregation and college expressing an interest in creating it. The paper is handling all the details of production, printing, marketing, ordering and shipping.
Both the Sisters of Providence and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College have assisted with supplying archival and current information as well as photos.
After all expenses are paid, The Tribune Star will divide any money realized over and above expenses among the three entities.
As the year-long celebration has moved forward, some of the events that have already taken place include the official opening of the Shrine of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the official ribbon cutting of the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center.
In addition, the Indiana State Museum currently is offering the exhibit, “A Spirit of Service and Social Responsibility,” which will be on display through Oct. 25. The exhibit features Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s Journal and much, much more!
Other events during the year-long celebration include the Feast Day of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin (Oct. 3), The Saint Mother Theodore Guerin FEST (Oct. 16-18) and Foundation Day (Oct. 22).
